As part of this week’s Pella School Board meeting, a two-year contract extension was approved for Superintendent Greg Ebeling.

However, that new contract included retirement language that includes a retirement plan following the 2025-26 school year. Ebeling says that will mark several career milestones working in schools, and his decision will allow for a smoother transition to a new leader over the next two years.

“I don’t want to take a three year contract if I don’t intend to actually finish a three-year contract,” he says. “The board would like for me to take another three year contract, and I appreciate that, but looking at my years in education and if I do two more, that will put me at 35 years in education total and 25 as a superintendent alone, which is a good run, and it will have put me 15 years here in Pella.”

“There is some retirement language in my contract with that sunset coming on June 30th, 2026.”

Ebeling says the process will start next year and ramp up in earnest in 2025-26 to complete a succession plan and potential search for a replacement.
