flagler-bridge-update

The Marion County Roads Department has provided an update on the demolition and reconstruction of the Flagler Bridge at County Road T15.

According to Marion County Engineer Tyler Christian, demolition of the existing bridge is near completion, despite the project being behind schedule.

“They got a late start because the railroad delayed some approvals. Once we got through that in December and got started, then the blizzard hit a couple of weeks later, while demolition was still underway. At this point, demolition is, I’d say 95% complete. Really they’re just keeping one abutment for the crane to sit on itself.”

Christian adds that the process of constructing the new bridge will begin this week.

“So, this week actually, they’re preparing for the first concrete pour which will be the footings for the center pier. So, excavation has been complete, the pile has been driven in the center pier, rebar and forms are set, and we’re gearing up to have the first major concrete pour of the new structure.”

The project, which began in December, is anticipated to be completed later this year.
