Redek Born’s list of postseason honors grew by one more on Tuesday when the Norwalk basketball star was named First Team All-State in Class 4A for the second consecutive year. The all-state teams were announced by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.

The Warriors’ senior point guard was previously named First Team All-Little Hawkeye Conference and First Team All-Substate 2 in Class 4A. He was also selected to play in the 2024 Pizza Ranch All-Star Games on March 23.

Born, who will play college basketball at the University of Northern Iowa, finished his high school career with 1,467 points and 133 made 3-pointers. He was a three-year varsity starter who helped Norwalk reach the Class 4A State Tournament as a junior and averaged a 4A-leading 23 points per game as a senior.

Third-year Norwalk head coach Aaron Pelzer tells KNIA Sports that Born checks every box when it comes to being a leader. “I don’t know being a head coach without Redek as my point guard,” he said. “I told him that I have loved every minute of coaching him. Not only is he our best player, but he is by far our best worker… our hardest worker. He’s tireless, he treats everybody right, he’s a great teammate. He leads by example but the guys listen when he talks.”

Pelzer adds, “He’s going to go on to bigger and better things, I know that. That kind of work ethic and determination usually bodes well in life, and I look for him to probably have a really successful career at UNI.”

Redek Born is following in the footsteps of his older brother, Bowen, who has already put together a successful four-year career for the UNI Panthers. In addition to his 23 points per game as a prep senior, Redek averaged 4.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists. He tallied 35 steals, made 43 3-pointers, shot 52.3 percent from the field and 85.6 percent at the free throw line, making 143 of 167 attempts.
