The City of Pella’s annual tulip bloom status map has been released, and as has been previously reported due to much warmer than normal conditions this winter, an earlier showcase is expected this spring.
The map will be updated periodically over the next seven weeks between now and the 89th Tulip Time, and highlights the various beds planted by the City of Pella each year. For 2024, the parks department prepared 120,000 tulips in 250 beds in community parks and along streets. The document also shows the location of the popular nightmare tulips, as well as flower beds planted by the Tulip Queen and Royal Court.
This year, the City of Pella joins Pella Historical Museums and Visit Pella in encouraging a visit in April to both the local heritage museums and to see the flowers, and a return stop for parades and food stands during the festival May 2nd through the 4th. However, the organizations also stress that by planting a wide variety, many blooms should be in place for multiple weeks, especially with the cooler forecast on the horizon.
