The Simpson softball team extended their winning streak to double digits on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep over Cornell in non-conference action as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.
Neither team could find offense in the cold weather in the first four innings of game one, but RBI doubles by Ashlyn Steen and Megan Heidelbauer as the Storm put up four runs to take full control in the fifth, then added three more in the sixth that included a two-RBI double by Lexi Ehlers as the Storm won 7-0. Madi Peterson earned the win in the circle giving up just five hits.
Taryan Barrick-Wessels nearly had her second straight five-inning no-hitter as she dominated the Rams offense, as Simpson scored early and often. Caelynn Obleton got a two-RBI single in the second inning, part of her four-RBI game, as the Storm put up four runs in the second and fourth innings to gain full control and end the game early. Cornell got their only offense on a fifth inning hit that was nearly a stellar defensive play, however Barrick-Wessels earned another win after another gem.
The Storm are now on a 10-game winning streak and are 15-5, and will next play on the road Saturday at Grinnell.
