Coming up at Tuesday’s Pella City Council meeting, an agenda item is expected for a special event permit as it relates to the Pella Farmers Market.
At the past few meetings, several public comments have been made about the location of the market downtown. This followed a petition that circulated around businesses in the central business district, asking for the removal of the market from the east side of the square, citing parking concerns and competing interests with brick-and-mortar retailers.
Pella Farmers Market Director Rebecca Jones says the move to downtown for their operation has been beneficial in several ways, especially with increased exposure and foot traffic for their various vendors. Jones says they want to collaborate with business owners downtown to better improve how they operate.
An official decision is expected to be made by the Pella City Council about the special event permit at their meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Pella Public Safety Complex.
***PLEASE NOTE: The agenda has been released, and this action item is part of the consent agenda.
