Several local high school students earned All-State Jazz honors from the Jazz Educators of Iowa.

Pella High School continued its remarkable excellence in jazz, including:

Alto Saxophone – Eli Ebeling (Four-Time Selection)
Bass – Penny Shriver (Four-Time Selection)
Bari Saxophone – Rachael Stratton (2023 Alternate)
Trumpet – Abner Erickson
Vibes (Class 4A) – Abigail Brand (3A Alternate)

Alternates: Tess Hopkins, Aidan Smith

The Pella Band Directors wanted to note that three-time lead trumpet honoree Tyler Mifflin decided not to audition for All-State jazz due to the ensemble’s performance for the Iowa Bandmasters Association.

Pella next performs and defends three-consecutive state titles at the Iowa Jazz Championships on Tuesday in Ames at 1:45 p.m.

Additionally, Indianola’s Simon Gilfanov was an alternate in the Class 4A band as a bass player.
