The Norwalk track and tennis teams all competed on Thursday, highlighted by a first-place finish by the Warrior girls track team and a close dual victory for the tennis girls.

Girls Track Wins Team Title at Ballard

The Norwalk girls track team took home four gold medals and a team title from the Ballard Coed Invitational, scoring 119 points. Individual golds included Bailey Birmingham in the 400-meter hurdles and Lauren Black in the discus. The Warrior girls also won the shuttle hurdle and 4×800 relays and placed second in five events. Their next meet is Monday at Urbandale.

Warriors Placing 2nd: Nyah Hulbert 100 Dash, 13.57; Hulbert 200 Dash, 27.79; Ashlyn Brown 400 Dash, 1:03.38; 4×100 Relay, 53.64; 4×400 Relay, 4:24.69.

 

Girls Tennis edges North Polk

The Norwalk girls tennis team outlasted North Polk 6-5 in a season-opening home dual that featured five super tiebreaker matches. The Warriors won the final super tiebreaker decision at No. 5 doubles when Naomi Lors and Jacey Crane prevailed 6-4, 4-6 (11-9). Katie Larson, Grace Dehmer and Julia Palen all picked up singles wins for the Warrior girls – Dehmer in a super tiebreaker. The doubles teams of Anya Kallenbach and Larson, as well as Jaidey Tiedt and Morgan Davis, picked up hard-fought wins as well. Norwalk will host Indianola on Tuesday.

Norwalk singles wins: Katie Larson 6-2, 6-1; Grace Dehmer 2-6, 6-2 (10-7); Julia Palen 6-3, 6-3.

Norwalk doubles wins: Anya Kallenbach/Larson 7-5, 6-4; Jaidey Tiedt/Morgan Davis 6-4, 7-5; Naomi Lors/Jacey Crane 6-4, 4-6 (11-9).

 

Boys Track Wins Two Events at Northwest Early Bird

The Norwalk boys track team won two events at the Waukee Northwest Early Bird meet. The 4×800 relay squad of Tony Anania, AJ Mosqueda, Grant Wallace and Henry Groos posted a winning time of 8:06.76 and Xavier Bush won the 400 dash in 52.04 seconds. Anania later broke 1:59 in the 800 to place second. Team scores were not kept. The Warriors compete at Winterset tonight.

2nd Place: Tony Anania 800, 1:58.49.

3rd Place: Grant Wallace 800, 2:04.24.

4th Place: Logan Atherton High Jump, 6-0.

 

Boys Tennis falls at Boone

The Norwalk boys tennis team opened the season at Boone and was defeated 10-1. The Warriors picked up their only win at No. 4 doubles in a super tiebreaker when Corbin Oswald and Wyatt Black won 6-4, 4-6 (10-7). Norwalk travels to Indianola for a dual on Tuesday.
