The Pella and Pella Christian boys golf teams opened their seasons Friday at the Saydel Invitational.
The Eagles, who won the Saydel meet a year ago with a 306, finished with a 301 but was one stroke back of Gilbert for the invitational title. The Dutch took third place on the day, posting a team score of 314.
Eliot Menninga and Isaiah Breems led the way for Pella Christian in the meet, with Menninga tying for fourth place and Breems taking sixth place with scores of 73 and 74, respectively. Cooper Spronk wasn’t far behind the Eagles top two, finishing in a tie for seventh with a 76. Deacon Branderhorst tied for 13th in the meet with a 78, Landon Fransman tied for 30th with an 86, and Carter Brand rounded out the Pella Christian lineup with a 49th place finish with a 106.
Leading Pella on Friday afternoon was AJ Hoekstra, who tied for seventh place after posting a 76. Cade McGinley and Cole Floden were a part of a five-way tie for 13th place with each recording a 78, while KJ Besick tied for 20th with an 82. Rounding out the lineup for the Dutch were Luke Naig tying for 26th with an 84 and Simon Thoreson tying for 35th with a 90.
The Pella and Pella Christian boys golf teams are back in action on Thursday for the Pella Invite at Bos Landen Golf Course.
