The Indianola City Council met in regular session Monday evening. The council gave direction to city staff to explore the possibility of allowing outdoor animals to be kept within the city limits, specifically discussing chickens.

The council approved a Planned Unit Development for an expansion to The Village, which consists of an addition and expansion of independent-living facilities, a transitional care unit extension, and independent living duplexes. The council also approved the first consideration of a rezoning request for the Fairacres Development from Agricultural to Single Family Residential, and a major site plan application for townhouse dwellings at 1602 E 2nd Avenue, known as the Schoolyard Development. The development is east of Indianola High School which consists of 52 residential units to be developed at the site, built over four bi-attached horizontal residential buildings.

The council also gave direction to city staff to discuss safety and traffic on N 9th Street. Public Works Director Akhilesh Pal discussed a traffic safety study regarding the safety and extra vehicle traffic due to the Hillcrest Ave construction and school proximity. The council gave direction to city staff to install a temporary stop sign, and evaluate.

The council also discussed the FY25 budget before going into closed session to discuss litigation.
