A trio of Central College student-athletes were chosen as American Rivers Conference Athletes of the Week in their respective sports Monday.

Harold Dobernecker was the men’s golfer of the week, Caroline McMartin was the women’s track athlete of the week and Kale Purcell was the men’s field athlete of the week.

Dobernecker was the top Division III finisher at the Garn Championship last Monday and Tuesday, finishing third out of 109 golfers from primarily NAIA schools. He shot a 74-75-80-229 and finished 11 shots back of the winner. Central was sixth as a team. The Dutch play in the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational in Normal, Illinois on Friday and Saturday.

McMartin finished third out of 209 runners in the 5,000-meter run at the Washington University Distance Carnival on Friday. The senior broke her own school record by 21 seconds in a time of 16 minutes, 29.21 seconds, and has the fastest time in NCAA Division III so far this season.

Purcell was the men’s triple jump champion at the Central Dutch Invitational last Thursday with a leap of 46 feet, 2.75 inches. He topped the six-man field and is now No. 7 in Division III in the event this season. Central’s track and field teams are set to compete at the Wartburg Select on Friday and Saturday in Waverly.
