pella-city-council-2023

The Pella City Council has a pair of meetings on the docket today. The first will be at noon as a public hearing during a special session for a proposed maximum property tax levy for fiscal year 2025. A proposal of $11.30 per $1,000 valuation is on the docket for the top allowable levy — based on last week’s budget workshops, the council will consider $10.75 as the actual amount — which would still be the first increase in more than two decades, if approved. That number will be determined April 16th; the meeting at noon Tuesday is part of a new legislative requirement passed last year.

A regular meeting will follow in the evening. The council will consider removing a resolution from the table that would allow the city to pursue bids for a proposed indoor recreation center. If approved, the council would spend $137,500 in engineering fees and establish a public hearing for approval of construction on May 21st. The rec center was included in a budget proposal presented to the Pella City Council last week, and the current agenda item was tabled on February 20th.

The Pella City Council regular meeting begins at 6 p.m., and both sessions are scheduled to take place in the Pella Public Safety Complex.
