The Knoxville City Council approved a development agreement at their meeting Monday night to bring more senior housing to the community.

The council approved an agreement with Overland Group LLC for a 48 unit senior housing development in the Veterans District. This will be located in “Block A,” which was land that was recently transferred over from Marion County to the city. The land is approximately 6.67 acres and Overland will acquire three acres of the land for $195,000, as the remaining property is expected to be the future home to a new apartment complex. With the need for senior housing in the community, Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery says this development will help with the shortage.

“With the housing needs assessment showing that we need hundreds of new units of senior housing, and that was done in 2016, and Knoxville has not added senior housing since then, the demand is there, and this will be a great project that will fill some of those needs.”
