The Class 1A #15 ranked Pella Christian girls soccer team scored two goals in each half to pick up a 4-1 win at Newton in their Little Hawkeye Conference opener Tuesday night, while the Eagles boys soccer squad fell at home to the Cardinals 2-0.

For the PC girls, the scoring got started early when Claire Winn-Fogle found the back of the net in the sixth minute to push the Eagles in front 1-0. Just under a minute later, Newton scored to tie the game back up at 1-1. That score held for just over 30 minutes of game action, before Lexi Terpstra capitalized on a penalty kick in the 39th minute to give Pella Christian a 2-1 advantage at the break. Out of halftime, the Eagles quickly pushed their lead to 3-1, as Karis Fikkert found the back of the net in the 44th minute on an assist from Terpstra. Pella Christian added on with their final goal of the night in the 69th minute, as Chloe Snyder scored her first career varsity goal on an assist from Ema Zula.

The Eagle boys started out strong against Newton playing into the windy condition in the first half at home. Pella Christian held the Cardinals off the board for the opening 12 minutes, but the Cardinals broke through the Eagle defense for a goal in the 13th minute. The score remained 1-0 in favor of Newton until the 29th minute, before the Cardinals found the back of the net off of a corner kick. Pella Christian got the advantage of the windy conditions in the second half, but were unable to take advantage as they fell 2-0.

The Eagle girls improved to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play, while the boys dropped to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in league action. The Pella Christian soccer teams return to the pitch Thursday for a doubleheader on Eagle Lane, with the girls hosting Centerville at 5:30 pm and boys hosting Clarke at approximately 7:15 pm.
