The Knoxville City Council approved a land gifting agreement with the Knoxville Community School District at their meeting Monday night.

This is for the plat of land that was the site of the former Knoxville Middle School. The city intends to use this land for a future public safety/city hall facility. The site of the former middle school is considered an ideal location for the new facility according to a GIS location study. Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery says this project will greatly benefit the community.

“Seeing that this former middle school property would become available, being able to have those conversations with the school is not only a huge financial benefit for us overall in the project and our taxpayers but also just the location for our public safety portion of this building and the response times. It’s crucial and we’re very thankful for that partnership and are excited to move forward with this project.”

The closing date for the property is June 21st.
