In Norwalk High School sports action on Friday, the boys tennis team defeated Indianola 9-2, the boys track team placed third at the Indianola Invite and both soccer teams lost hard-fought non-conference matches.

Norwalk Boys Tennis 9, Indianola 2

The Warrior tennis boys improved to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in conference duals with a 9-2 victory at Indianola. The match of the day was at No. 1 singles as Norwalk senior Adrian Bush outlasted Michael Rothchild in a third-set super tiebreaker, winning 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 1-0 (10-6). The No. 5 doubles team of Carson Menke and Eli Geisler also won via super tiebreaker and Drew Lents won a first-set tiebreaker in his 7-6, 6-4 singles victory. The Warriors also picked up singles wins from Braylon Stockwell, Corbin Oswald and Wyatt Coburn. Norwalk’s next dual is Thursday, April 11, at Ballard.

Norwalk Boys Track 3rd at Indianola

The Norwalk boys track and field team placed in the top three in nine events and scored 86 points to finish third at Indianola’s Indian Invite. Waukee Northwest won the meet title with 177 points and Indianola took second with 124. Tony Anania had a hand in both Warrior gold medals on the night, including his first-place time of 4:26.58 in the mile. Anania also anchored the winning distance medley relay, teaming with Logan Atherton, Kadan Borcherding-Johnson and Xavier Bush for a time of 3:33.12. Cameron Thomas placed second in the 400 hurdles and Atherton took second in the high jump. Atherton, Nate Platner and Isaac Sutcliffe were each part of the second-place sprint medley and 4×100 relays. The Warriors will compete at home on Monday night as part of the Norwalk Coed Invitational.

Norwalk Boys Soccer falls to Spencer

The Norwalk boys soccer team allowed two second-half goals in a 2-1 home loss vs. Spencer. Caden Endres scored off a free kick to give the Warriors a 1-0 halftime lead, but they finished the night with just five total shots and three shots on goal. Tyden Eng was the team leader with two shots. Norwalk coach Dustin Kralik tells KNIA Sports that the Warriors failed to handle some adversity in the second half. Norwalk, now 2-2 overall, turns right back around for a Saturday morning match against Denison-Schleswig.

Norwalk Girls Soccer loses in PK shootout

In a battle of top-five ranked soccer teams in Class 2A, the fourth-ranked Norwalk girls lost at fifth-ranked North Polk 1-0 in a penalty kick shootout. The Warriors dropped to 2-2 overall while the Comets improved to 5-0. Following a scoreless regulation and two overtimes, North Polk outscored Norwalk 4-3 in penalty kicks. The Warriors will finally play their first home game on Tuesday night, taking on Pella Christian.
