Students in Knoxville viewed the solar eclipse on Monday.

A large number of students were able to go outside during the school day to view the astronomical event through eclipse glasses or their own homemade boxes. Ms. Rankin’s fifth grade class made their own pinhole viewing box to be able to witness the rare solar eclipse. Justice Schinn said he learned a lot from the experience.

“I never knew that it only happens every amount of years.”

Aislinn Webster learned how rare of an event a total solar eclipse is.

“It’s just weird to think about that it doesn’t happen too much, that it only happens every once and awhile, not every year.”

Students also expressed that they will be able to teach others about the next total solar eclipse when they are 30 years old. The eclipse saw the most coverage in Knoxville at 1:58 pm.
