The Simpson College softball team had their 18-game winning streak snapped Wednesday afternoon on the road at Loras, falling 6-1 in game one but salvaging the split with a dominating 9-0 victory in the second contest.

The Duhawks got out to an early lead in the first game on a three-run homerun in the first inning and the Storm wouldn’t recover. Simpson got a run across in the third to cut the lead to 3-1, but the Duhawks responded after taking advantage of Storm miscues in the field to score another three in the fourth.

In game two, Simpson jumped all over Loras. The Storm scored a pair of runs in the first on a sacrifice fly and an error, but then plated seven runs in the third highlighted by a Lexi Ehlers two-run homerun and RBI doubles by Kate Kriegel and Megan Heidelbauer. The game would end early, with a dominating performance by Taryan Barrick-Wessels in the circle allowing just four hits. Simpson is now 24-6 and 7-1 in conference play, and will next play on the road at Wartburg Saturday.
