Two of Class 1A’s best boys tennis teams clashed west of Pella High School Friday, and it was advantage Dutch as #3 ranked Pella knocked off #5 North Polk 8-3.
It has been a long-standing rivalry between the green and white and the Comets from Alleman, as the state-qualifying Moon brothers have been a multiple-year hurdle for Pella. This year, Jack Briggs broke through, and defeated Ethan in No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-1, and joined Ben Van Gorp to do so in doubles by third-set tiebreaker (6-1, 4-6, 10-8).
The two schools will collide less than 24 hours later when they play at the Joel Tonda Tennis Complex in Knoxville today in an invitational-style tournament.
