The Norwalk Tennis teams swept Pella Christian Wednesday afternoon, with the Warrior girls edging the Eagles for a 6-5 road win and the boys winning 9-2 at home.
The Norwalk girls won five of the six singles matches on Eagle Lane, needing all of them to hold off the Eagles, who won four of the five doubles matches to end the match. Winning singles matches for the Warriors were Anya Kallenbach at #1 (6-1, 6-3), Katie Larson at #2 (3-6, 6-2, 1-0), Grace Dehmer at #3 (6-3, 6-1), Sutton McNelly at #5 (6-2, 6-3), and Leah Black at #6 (0-6, 6-4, 1-0). The lone doubles win for Norwalk, which sealed the win, came from Kallenbach and Larson at #1 (6-4, 7-5). Ava Breems gave Pella Christian their only single victory at #3 (6-4, 3-6, 1-0). The Eagles doubles wins came from Rachel Lanferman and Lexi Branderhorst at #2 (5-7, 6-4, 1-0), Leah Mulder and Breems at #3 (6-1. 6-1), Renae Van Wyk and Breece Gibson at #4 (6-2, 7-5), and Kate Braafhart and Lauren Winn at #5 (6-3, 4-6, 1-0).
The Norwalk boys won five of the six singles matches on the day, and added the final four victories in doubles play. Nabbing singles’ victories for the Warriors were Adrian Bush at #1 (6-0, 6-3), Tyler Stiegelmeier at #3 (6-3, 7-6), Drew Lents at #4 (6-2, 6-0), Corbin Oswald at #5 (6-1, 6-0), and Lane Juergens at #6 (6-4, 6-1). Doubles wins for Norwalk came from Stiegelmeier and Lents at #2 (6-4, 7-5), Juergens and Eli Mills at #3 (7-6, 6-2), Carson Menke and Oswald at #4 (6-3, 4-6, 1-0), and Wyatt Black and Wyatt Coburn at #5 (6-2, 6-1). Aaron Meinders provided Pella Christian with their lone two wins in the match, winning his #2 singles contest (6-4, 6-0), before teaming up with Shaun Bos for a win at #1 doubles (6-4).
Norwalk’s tennis teams return to the courts today at 4:15 pm against Newton. The girls host the Cardinals, while the boys compete on the road at Newton. The Pella Christian tennis teams are back in action today at 4:15 pm, with the boys traveling to Indianola and the girls hosting the Indians.
