Pella Christian boys basketball and volleyball coaches JD and Erica Boer announced Monday afternoon that they have accepted coaching positions at Dordt University for the upcoming school year. 

The Boers came to Pella Christian when JD accepted the head boys basketball coaching job and a teaching position with the school in April 2020. Erica began coaching volleyball at PC as an assistant coach from 2020-2022, before taking over the head coaching position this past fall. JD posted an overall record of 65-35 during his four seasons leading the boys basketball team, reaching the State Tournament Semifinals twice. Erica posted an overall record of 17-21 in her lone season as the volleyball team’s head coach. 

JD and Erica graduated from Dordt in 2016, and after spending two years coaching in Arizona, the Boer’s returned to Sioux Center, where JD served as a graduate assistant for the Defenders basketball team. JD said that the decision to leave Pella Christian was difficult, but added that both he and Erica are excited for their new opportunities. 

“You know, the Lord opened a lot of doors for us and made it very apparent to us that this was the right decision for us. It doesn’t make it any easier on this end. It’s been a bit of a tough time here, honestly, just emotionally and just dealing with leaving. This is a place, Pella Christian and the town of Pella and the community has been great to us. We’re sad to leave but we know that the Lord has great plans for us moving forward and for the school and community moving forward and we’re excited to see how that plays out all the way around.”
