The Norwalk boys tennis team defeated Urbandale 7-4 to highlight a busy and windy Monday of Warrior spring sports.

Norwalk Boys Tennis 7, Urbandale 4

Norwalk won its fifth straight dual in boys tennis, topping the J-Hawks in four out of six singles matches and taking three out of five in doubles. Braylon Stockwell, Tyler Stiegelmeier and Drew Lents won their singles matches in straight sets while Corbin Oswald won a third-set super tiebreaker 10-2. The doubles teams of Adrian Bush and Stockwell and Carson Menke and Oswald dominated their doubles matches. Eli Mills and Lane Juergens prevailed in a 15-13 super tiebreaker. Now 5-1 overall, the Warriors return to Little Hawkeye Conference play today, hosting Oskaloosa at 4:15.

Norwalk Singles Wins: Braylon Stockwell 6-3, 6-1; Tyler Stiegelmeier 6-1, 6-0; Drew Lents 6-2, 7-6 (7-3); Corbin Oswald 6-1, 1-6, 1-0 (10-2).

Norwalk Doubles Wins: Adrian Bush/Stockwell 6-1, 6-4; Eli Mills/Lane Juergens 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (15-13); Carson Menke/Oswald 6-0, 6-1.

Norwalk Girls Track 2nd at Winterset

The Norwalk girls track team won six events and placed second at Monday’s Winterset Invite. Norwalk finished just four points behind Waukee, 136-132. The Warriors’ individual gold medals included Andie Davitt in the 3,000-meter run, Hailey Gear in the 100 dash and Ella Johnson in the 100 hurdles. They also won the 4×200, 4×100 and 4×400 relays. Norwalk’s next meet is Thursday night at Carlisle.

Girls Golfers 3rd at Ames

The Warrior girls golfers placed third out of 18 teams at the Turk Bowman Invite, held at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames. Gilbert won the tournament with a team score of 340, followed by Ames with a 358 and Norwalk’s 380. Warrior freshman Evelyn Kinney placed 10th out of 104 golfers with an 87, shooting consistent front and back-nine scores of 44 and 43. Lydia Krueger finished 16th with a 93 and teammates Ava Garvey and Mariola Torro Abad both carded an even 100. The Warriors are in Pella today for a Little Hawkeye Conference meet at 10:00 a.m.

Girls Tennis falls 10-1

The Norwalk girls tennis squad lost a 10-1 decision at Urbandale, dropping their dual record to 4-4 overall. Tessa Livingston picked up the team’s lone victory at No. 4 singles, winning 6-1, 6-4. The Warriors play at Oskaloosa today at 4:15.

Boys Soccer loses 3-1

The Norwalk boys soccer team was outscored 2-0 in the second half and lost to Des Moines Lincoln 3-1 at the Cownie Soccer Park. Keilor Rodman assisted Noah Buhrow’s first-half goal for the Warriors, who dropped to 5-6 on the season. Buhrow finished with three of the team’s eight shots on goal. Norwalk plays a 7:30 match at Oskaloosa tonight – the tail end of a girl/boy varsity doubleheader.

Girls Soccer defeated 5-0

Class 3A second-ranked West Des Moines Valley shut out 2A fifth-ranked Norwalk 5-0, improving to 9-1 on the season. Freshman Olivia Rotich scored a hat trick for the Tigers. The Warriors, now 5-4 overall, attempted six shots on goal.
