The Norwalk girls soccer team enjoyed their best day of the season on Saturday, defeating a pair of top 10 opponents in the DC-G/Urbandale Classic.
The Class 2A fifth-ranked Warriors posted a 2-0 shutout win over 2A No. 6 Independence in the morning at Dallas Center-Grimes. In the afternoon match at Urbandale, Norwalk soundly defeated 2A ninth-ranked Spencer 6-0, improving their record to 8-4 overall. Independence and Spencer entered the tournament with a combined record of 15-3.
In the first match of the day, Norwalk goals were scored by Avery Drymon and Addison Burch, assisted by Anna Larson and Addy Wood. Goalie Katie Liedtke earned the shutout with back line help from Paige Nichols, Reese Trebilcock and Tatum Miller.
In the Spencer match, Trebilcock and Wood scored two goals each for the Warriors while Braelyn Clark and Miller both had one goal. Clark, Drymon, Pearl Brown and Taylor Schreiber all had assists. Liedtke and Emmory Toppenberg combined for the shutout at goalie.
The Warriors return to Little Hawkeye Conference play on Monday, traveling to DC-G to take on the 2A top-ranked Mustangs at 7:30. Norwalk enters the contest with a 3-1 conference record while DC-G is 2-0.
