Dutch Advance in American Rivers Conference Men’s Tennis Tournament

Facing a streaking Nebraska Wesleyan University squad, the Central College men’s tennis team earned an American Rivers Conference tournament quarterfinal win 5-1 Tuesday.

The Prairie Wolves had won the final two matches of the regular season while the Dutch (9-12) entered on a two-match losing streak.

Central opened the contest by winning two of three doubles matches. Ernest Alvarez Chedzoy and Alejo Marcon combined to win 8-4 at No. 3, while Alex Slaymaker and Ayden Fletcher also won 8-7 at No. 3. Chedzoy finished the night 2-0 after notching a 6-0, 7-6 win at No. 4 singles. Marcon also went 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles. Travis Subbert’s 6-0, 6-3 No. 5 singles victory gave Central the fifth point to win the match.

Central advances to the semifinals Thursday, where they will take on No. 1 Luther College in Decorah at 4 pm.

Dutch Men Finish Third at American Rivers Conference Golf Championships

Putting together its best team score of the spring, the Central College men’s golf team moved up to take a third-place finish at the American Rivers Conference Championships Tuesday. The Dutch carded a 297 as a team Tuesday, finishing third with a three-round total of 306-320-297-923. All three rounds were played on the par-71 Glen Oaks Country Club course. Central senior Jacob Moffett finished as the league runner-up, after shooting his highest round of the week and ending the tournament with a score of 72-74-76-222. Harold Dobernecker had Central’s lowest individual 18-hole round of the tournament with an even par 71 Tuesday. He moved up six spots to ninth, earning all-conference honors and a score of 78-81-71-230. Kayden Pendergrass finished tied for 14th (78-82-75-235), John Oltman tied for 17th (78-83-75-236) and Cole McGriff finished 34th (85-83-77-245).
