The Simpson College men’s track and field team moved up one spot in the sixth week of the USTFCCCA National Rankings and the Midwest Regional Rankings.
The Storm checked in at No. 21 nationally and also sits at No. 9 in the region. Simpson is also one of five teams in the American Rivers Conference in the poll.
Simpson collected 86.63 points in the national poll, with senior Spencer Moon garnering points in three events. Moon is ranked second in the 5,000 meters (13:51.65) and fifth in the 10,000 meters (29:18.21), holding the school and conference records in each. Moon also ranks inside the top 30 in the 1,500 meters after his performance at the Drake Relays last weekend. The Lake City, Iowa native is also in the top three in all three events regionally.
Ulysses Patterson is still ranked fifth in the decathlon nationally, also being ranked second in the region. The senior won the competition at the Augustana Meet of Champions two weeks ago with a personal best score of 6,513 points.
Max Cleveland and Carter Berkey also contributed points towards the Storm’s total. Cleveland is ranked 15th in the country after a blistering 14.32 in the 110 meter hurdles at the Kip Janvrin Open. Berkey is ranked just inside the top 50 after winning the long jump with a season-best mark of 6.99 meters.
The Storm will head back to Waverly, Iowa for the Wartburg May Triangular, the team’s final meet before the conference championships.
