It is an usually busy Saturday for Knoxville Sports as the Panthers will have three teams in action. The boys golf squad, provided the rain holds off, will head to the Ames Golf and Country Club for the Gilbert Invitational. This was the meet that propelled Knoxville to the runner-up finish at State last year. Coach Barry Smith tells KNIA/KRLS Sports they want to defend their meet win from last year, and actually get a meet in, which has been tough due to weather hurdles this week.
Smith: “We’d like to go up there and defend our title. Gilbert is good, but there are other teams up there like Ballard, North Polk, and others. But we just want to get on the course and see how we do.”
While the Panthers will be golfing in Ames, the boys tennis squad will head to Ottumwa to play in a tournament. The Panthers learned their road in the postseason. The Panthers drew the 7th seed in the team and will travel to Grinnell next Saturday. The girls soccer squad, who like the golf squad has not had much success getting events in due to weather and other obstacles. Knoxville has not played since a win over Chariton on April 22nd. Since then, the Panthers’ last two scheduled matches have been either postponed or canceled.
