A defensive slugfest for the first three quarters turned into an offensive show for Knoxville in the fourth quarter as the Panthers erupted for 31 points and held on to defeat Centerville last night 56-53. The Panthers went on a 12-0 run taking the game from a 28/25 deficit at the end of the third quarter to a 37-to-28 lead and never trailed the rest of the way. Knoxville did have to survive a desperation three at the buzzer for the win. Coach Clint Driftmier says his team have been playing well despite the scores and loses…he hoped one day it would all come together for a win and it did. Lance Daugherty led three Panthers in double figures with 16 points, Erik Ryan had 13 off the bench, and Jamie VanderVeer picked up 11. Knoxville is now 2-2, and will take on a taller Pella Christian team tonight. Driftmier says most of the season his team will be outsized at nearly every position. You can hear the play-by-play on AM 1320 KNIA tonight following the broadcast of the girls contest.
