Boys Golf Wins Another Conference Title
The Knoxville Boys Golf Squad successfully defended its South Central Conference crown once again on Monday winning the title by 16 strokes over runner up Chariton, firing a 306. Evan Smith was medallist and Carson Uitermarkt was runner-up after a playoff between himself and Smith. Those two with Noah Keefer earned all conference designation. Smith and Uitermarkt both shot 73s, while Keefer had a 79, Brady Roozeboom shot an 81, Luke Roozeboom had an 83 and Grant Gerdes shot an 86. The Panthers now start the road which they hope is a trip to Ames for the State Meet, but first Knoxville must head to Creston for the class 3A sectional. Coach Barry Smith tells KNIA/KRLS Sports his top three are always going to shoot well, but a fourth player to come in with a good score would also be a big help.
Smith: “We got to the point where we needed that 5 and 6 to come in competitively. If we can get those top three to score like they normally do and then to get that 5 or 6 to score low 80s or high 70s, we’re a tough team to beat.”
The Panthers look to advance out of the sectional, which would land them in the district which takes place in Atlantic. Meanwhile the girls will be in action today as well as they head to Oskaloosa for the South Central Conference meet.
Boys Track And Field 2nd, Girls 5th At Conference Meet
The Knoxville Boys Track and Field Squad had several personal records Monday night in the rescheduled South Central Conference meet, but without a few pieces placed 2nd by 11.5 points to Davis County. Coach Eric Kellar said it would be close and it was. Koby Higginbotham swept the hurdle events winning the 110 high in a time of :14.64…and the 400 lows in a time of :56.18. Isaac Rankin won both of the distance events winning the 1600 in a time of 4:48.41 and the 3200 in a time of 10:28.34. On the girls side, the Panthers were 5th as Ciara Heffron swept the throwing events, winning the discus with a throw of 127 feet and the shot put with a distance of 34-9.5 inches. Maasdam 4th At 1A Individual Regionals
The Knoxville Girls Tennis Squad was unable to qualify any player to the individual state meet on Monday. Janie Maasdam came the closest getting 4th place in singles. Maasdam was the 4th seed and won her first two matches to get to the semifinals, but fell to Emily Blom of Pella in the semis then fell in the 3rd place match. Iselynn Prevo lost in her opening round match. In doubles Knoxville’s Marlea Cox and Bridgette Liston lost their opening round match while Kate Schneider and Mackenzie Karr went 1-1. Knoxville will get ready for the team regionals which will be held in Knoxville as the Panthers will take on Davis County in an opening round match.
Soccer Squads Pull The Sweep At Clarke
The Knoxville Girls Soccer Squad was a 3-1 winner over Clarke. Payton Horn had all three goals to get the hat trick while Ella Breazeale had five saves. Knoxville is now 7-4 on the season and will host Creston on Thursday. The boys completed the sweep at Clarke in a 1-0 win that Coach Dylan Mick called the most dominant 1-0 win in his 13 seasons as coach. The Panthers got an own goal for the lone tally of the night, but Mick added his midfielders controlled the entire match and defense allowed no shots on goal. Knoxville will travel to Pella on Friday.
