Area middle school students competed at the Mike Henderson Boys and Girls State Championship meet on Saturday in Waukee.

In the seventh grade girls large schools division, Indianola brought home a second place finish, while Norwalk tied for 15th and Pella tied for 22nd. Pleasantville’s seventh grade girls took 11th in the small school’s division. In the girls eighth grade large schools division, Norwalk and Indianola tied for 10th and Pella tied for 25th. In the eighth grade small schools division, Pleasantville was 12th and PCM tied for 21st. On the boys side, PCM’s first team took 18th and their second team tied for 25th, and Pleasantville tied for 36th in the eighth grade small schools division. Pella’s eighth grade boys tied for 30th in the large schools division. 

Indianola’s Julia McGraw was the individual state champion in the seventh grade girls large school 100 meter hurdles, posting a time of 15.91. Pleasantville’s Claira Vestal, Gabby Baethke, Harper McGraw, and Liv Klootwyk claimed the individual state title in the seventh grade small schools sprint medley relay in a winning time of 2:06.00. PCM’s Hayden Shannon was also a state champion in the eighth grade boys small schools shot put with a throw of 44’ 0”.
