The Indianola Police Department presented their annual report to the Indianola City Council at their most recent meeting, detailing the year of 2023. Indianola Police Chief Brian Sher tells KNIA News overall calls were down due to the department being down five officers over the course of the year, but they are nearly back at full strength and seeing an increase in drug enforcement.
“Our controlled substance cases, our illegal narcotics cases, were up 22.15% last year. Not only do we have a full-time narcotics detective now that is part of the Warren County Drug Task Force, and Officer Nixon and K9 Kilo, they’ve made a huge impact on the street. With that K9 comes education, so not only did we gain a K9, we also got the DARE Program back in the school. We like to balance education and enforcement. When we are doing one we should be doing the other.”
