The City of Knoxville is celebrating National Police Week this week.

This is a week dedicated to honoring all law enforcement and yesterday was National Peace Officer Memorial Day to honor officers who have lost their lives or became disabled in the line of duty. Knoxville Police Chief Aaron Fuller says this is a week to take the time to think about local law enforcement.

“It’s just a great time to remember the sacrifices that not only officers make, but their families make, that communities at times make. Just say thank you or spend a little bit more time thinking about law enforcement in your area.”

Peace Officers Memorial Day was first observed in 1962 after a proclamation was signed by President John F. Kennedy.
