Performing their first musical in six years, the Pleasantville Fine Arts program received two Iowa High School Musical Theatre Awards for their production of Seussical the Musical.
Juniors Ivan Showers and Dawson Schrader received the Distinguished Scene award for “Alone in the Universe” and senior Joslynn McCormick received special recognition for her performance in Principal Role as Gerturude McFuzz. McCormick, who graduates from Pleasantville this weekend, said it was a surreal feeling to earn this recognition.
“It really is crazy, because when I was in middle school, that was when the program was really big and they were doing musicals every year. And I looked up to the seniors so much with starry eyes, like I want to be them so bad, and now the fact that they have those awards in the case and I’m going to have one too, it’s actually mind blowing. And I’m just so very grateful for getting the award and also just for Mr. Lampe, Mr. Bruns, and all the other people in the cast with me.”
