The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host day camps for children this summer.
The Junior Rangers Day Camp for kids ages eight to ten years old will be held from 9 am-3 pm on Wednesday, June 19th and again on Tuesday, July 9th. Participants in the Junior Rangers program will learn what it’s like to be a Lake Red Rock Park Ranger, learn about the Red Rock Dam, explore a wetland, hike a prairie and more. The Outdoor Adventurers day camp will take place on Thursday, June 20th and Wednesday, July 17th from 9 am-3 pm. The program for children ages 11-12 years old will teach how to build a fire, make an emergency shelter, basic GPS skills, and paddling a kayak. The other day camp will be the Nature Explorers for kids ages 13-14 on Thursday, June 27th from 9 am-3 pm. For Nature Explorers, participants will head to the forest and build an emergency shelter, make a solar oven to bake a snack with the sun, design artwork with sun print paper, go kayaking or canoeing, and build a fire.
The day camps are free for participants but pre-registration is required. For more information, contact the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers office at (641) 828-7522 or email at lakeredrock@usace.army.mil
