hail

Another round of severe weather impacted Pella, Knoxville, and surrounding communities, this time, with up to tennis ball sized hailstones this morning. Multiple reports from listeners came in as Severe Weather Action Team coverage was activated around 11:15 a.m. on KNIA/KRLS, for a severe thunderstorm warning that prompted the outdoor warning system in Pella due to the large hail reported.

The first round of strong winds across Warren County prompted multiple severe thunderstorm warnings this morning. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team was on the air from 8:45 to 10:00 this morning for 60 MPH winds reported as a line of storms whipped into south central Iowa. Five staff members contributed to on-air coverage, which also included updates from Weatherology meteorologists. Additional heavy rain fell over most of Warren County.

This comes ahead of a strong potential for severe storms that are still expected to develop this afternoon. The main hazards will be multiple, strong tornadoes, wind gusts up to 80 MPH, and hail more than two inches in diameter. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team is on the air for any severe thunderstorm or tornado warning for Marion and Warren Counties.
