The Knoxville Boys and Girls of Summer hosted Davis County on Panther Drive on Wednesday and both came away with wins. The baseball Panthers pulled the sweep in a double header 3-2 in game one and 16-6 in the nightcap. Lincoln Norris got the win in game one going six innings allowing just one run on three hits, he was also 2/3 at the plate. The nightcap saw a combination of 22 runs and ten errors, eight by the visiting Mustangs as the Panthers ended the game in the 6th due to the ten run mercy rule. Norris again was a force at the plate going 2/3 with four RBI. Trey Wight was 2/3 including a triple and three runs scored. Kyler Gifford got the win in relief going three innings. Coach Turner Devore said the play of the game was when Luke Roozeboom gunned down a runner at home to end the 3rd inning.

Meanwhile, on the other side of Panther drive Ciara Heffron was dominant in the circle while Knoxville’s offense battered Davis County pitching to a tune of a 9-2 victory in the Panthers’ season opener. After giving up a run in the 1st inning, Knoxville put crooked numbers on the board in back-to-back innings to open up a 5-1 lead. The big blow came during that time by Macy Cox, who smashed a home run to left. Jordyn Counts was ¾ ,while Ralei Danner, Heffron, and Hannah Dunkin all had two RBI. First Year Coach Chris Peden told KNIA/KRLS Sports he was elated to get the first win and credited his team’s hard work in the preseason.

Peden: “Feels good to get the first one.. I have a great group, they worked hard and got to show what they can do tonight, and I’m so proud of their baserunning and how they put that to use.”

Heffron scattered eight hits, walked just two and struck out ten. Knoxville travels to Cardinal on Friday, while the baseball Panthers will host Indianola tonight in a make up game. Hear that call on 94.3 and 95.3 KNIA at 7:30.
