Jack Briggs continued his remarkable career in green and white at the state singles championships in Waterloo, and claimed his third consecutive top three trophy. The Pella boys tennis senior won the 1A title, one year after winning the doubles championship and two years after being a doubles runner-up. Briggs started the day by sweeping Landon Murch of North Polk 6-0, 6-0. The championship battle was tougher with Decorah’s No. 1 Caden Branum, with the Dutch senior prevailing 6-4, 1-6, 6-2. Pella’s duo of Joshua Roozeboom and Cameron Rowe fell twice on Thursday, placing 4th in the state doubles bracket. The Dutch turn their attention to team competition next week in Iowa City, starting on Thursday. Those brackets were released, with Pella taking on Boone in the 3-6 matchup. The winner plays Xavier or Decorah that same day. The Dutch defeated the Torreadors in the regular season 9-2, which included multiple tiebreakers.
