Justin Grant needed just one good restart, and Jamie Ball visited a place he has not been to in three years as both won the USAC and 360 respective classes Friday night at the Knoxville Raceway live on 95.3 KNIA. Grant had led the first 13 laps, but Knoxville non-wing master Brady Bacon was stalking him and finally took the lead on lap 14. However a red flag stopped everything and allowed Grant to regain the lead. After another stoppage with three laps to go, Grant saw his chance and as he said in victory lane, went for it.
Grant: “Really fortunate to get that, it was tricky on the top and Brady capitalized on my mistakes and slid me. There was a lot of moisture there and when he peeled right I said oh yeah.”
Bacon settled for 2nd while Daison Pursley took 3rd. Jamie Ball had not won a race at the Knoxville Raceway in three seasons. That streak stopped Friday night when Ball took the lead on lap 13 and held on to get his 10th career win at the Knoxville Raceway. Ball told KNIA/KRLS Sports the 360 class has gotten better and credits some of the stars for making him step up his game.
Ball: “All my guys have worked so hard. It’s been hard, we’ve had to race all of the stars for the last three seasons and that was the hardest I have ever worked for a win.”
Aaron Reutzel was 2nd and Tyler Gronenendyk was 3rd. There is more racing tonight as it is night two of the USAC National Sprint Cars plus the winged 410s will have their weekly show. Live Track Side comes on at five and Race Nights Live is on a seven on KNIA.
