Daison Pursley has started to make a name for himself in the last week. He was competitive in a winged 410 last week at the Knoxville Raceway, last Sunday won his first career race at Husets Speedway, then on Saturday, completed a near perfect weekend by winning night two of the Corn Belt Clash USAC National Sprint Car event heard live on KNIA. Pursley, finished in 3rd place on Friday, led the first 12 laps before Brady Bacon got around him on a restart on lap 13 and it looked like Bacon was going to pull away. But Pursley got another chance with eight laps remaining and turned the tables on Bacon. Pursley told KNIA/KRLS Sports he learned a few things during that 30 lap race.
Pursley: “Brady is a very good driver and has a few tricks up his sleeve. I made a rookie mistake and he got in the grip and spun my tires a little,I got that in the back of my mind and was able to pull off the pass.”
Bacon settled for 2nd and Kevin Thomas Jr was 3rd.
Meanwhile in the 410s, Chase Randall visited victory lane for the second straight week as he played the waiting game. Don Droud Jr. started on the pole and led the first 11 laps of the race. When Droud and Aaron Reutzel started battling for the top spot, Randall slipped by them both and cruised to the win. He told KNIA/KRLS Sports he had confidence from the moment they unloaded the car.
Randall: “Soon as we unloaded their car I had a good feeling about this. Troy and I have been chipping away at this, and we’ve hit on something. It’s really fun driving that car.”
Randall and the rest of the 410s, along with the 360s and Pro Sprints will return to action next Saturday with a weekly points show for all three classes.
