Bolstered by three five-run innings, Indianola rallied multiple times on Monday night to sweep Norwalk in a Little Hawkeye Conference baseball doubleheader, 12-10 and 11-6. The nearly five-hour twin bill was heard live on kniakrls.com (KNIA3).
The visiting Warriors put together a six-run first inning and a four-run fourth in game one, but were unable to protect a 10-3 lead. The Indians followed up a three-run bottom of the fourth with five runs in the fifth and an insurance run in the sixth. Indianola senior Luke Rockhold hit RBI doubles in the fourth and the fifth and finished 4-for-5 with two runs scored. George Blake went 3-for-3 with two doubles, three runs and two RBI and Andrew DeWall added a pair of RBI singles. Asher Brueck pitched 5 ⅔ innings of relief for the win and Kaden Ritchie retired the last three batters for the save.
In the night cap, Norwalk took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, Indianola countered with a five-spot, then the Warriors plated three in the second to make it 5-5. After Norwalk went ahead 6-5 in the top of the fifth, the Indians used some effective small ball to take control of the game with five runs in the bottom of the inning. George Blake earned the win in relief, pitching 2 ⅔ innings and retiring the final seven batters he faced. He also went 2-for-4 with a double.
Norwalk was led offensively by senior Aidan Harder, who batted a combined 5-for-8 in the doubleheader, scoring three runs and driving in one. CJ Davis led off game two with a home run and finished 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored. The Warriors committed nine total errors in the two games and the Indians were never retired in order.
With the sweep, Indianola improved to 9-5 overall and 4-1 in the Little Hawkeye. They will play another doubleheader tonight at West Des Moines Valley. Norwalk fell to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play. They will host North Polk tonight at 7:30.
