It was a Tuesday night of mixed results for the Norwalk summer sports teams. The Class 4A top-ranked Warrior softball team stayed unbeaten with a 12-4 win over Boone. The Warrior baseball team lost 12-1 in five innings against North Polk.
In softball, Norwalk built a 7-0 lead after two innings, then responded to Boone’s four-run top of the fourth with three runs in the home half. Jaylynn Brandt batted 2-for-4 with three runs scored, Addi Downe was 2-for-4 with two RBI and Ava Garvey went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Nyah Hulbert doubled for the team’s only extra-base hit, walked twice, scored two runs and also drove in a pair. Downe pitched a complete game four-hitter for the win, allowing just one earned run. She walked four and struck out three.
The Warriors, now 11-0, are back on the diamond tonight, hosting 4A No. 7 Dallas Center-Grimes at 7:15. The game will be carried live on 94.3 KNIA and KNIA3, starting with pregame coverage at approximately 7:00 p.m.
The Norwalk baseball team is now 6-7 overall following Tuesday’s home loss to North Polk. The 10-2 Comets blew open a close game with nine runs in the fourth inning. CJ Davis led the Warriors at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and the team’s only run. Payton Nichols and Caleb Ochanpaugh both added a single and Nichols had one RBI. Aidan Harder took the loss on the mound, allowing only one hit but battling his control in 3 ⅓ innings.
The Warriors will host DC-G for a conference game tonight at 7:30.
