The current edition of the Farm Bill is due to expire this September, and lawmakers in a split U.S. Congress are aiming to find a solution to continue extension of several programs tied to the massive legislation. Senator Chuck Grassley believes progress has been made with a version released by the House Agriculture Committee, but the biggest hurdle will be overcoming partisan differences before the bill expires this fall, especially with several days away from D.C. scheduled this summer into early September. While senators on the Senate Agriculture committee have released priorities for the five-year legislation, no text of a formal bill has been published yet. The two parties are hammering out differences related to SNAP benefits, conservation funding, and the topline spending number.
