The Knoxville Police Department is reminding the community to not mow grass clippings into the streets.

Grass clippings in the streets can clog up storm drains, cause flooding, and sometimes end up in the lake. It is also against city code for grass clippings to be in the street. Knoxville Police Chief Aaron Fuller says this also causes a hazard for bikes and motorcycles.

“Do not mow grass into the street. First of all it’s a violation of city ordinance, it clogs storm drains, but moreover it creates a hazard for people on two wheels, specifically motorcycles and bicycles; so please if you’re going to mow grass onto the street make sure you’re blowing it back into your yard whenever you’re done mowing.”
