The Indianola School Board voted to table an item on the agenda at their meeting Monday regarding a new position titled Elementary Dean of Students. Superintendent Ted Ihns tells KNIA News the position would take behavior issues off the plate of the four elementary principals and allow them to focus on academics.
“I don’t think it’s a secret in any school district that sometimes behavior comes up in our elementary schools and that can take a lot of time from the building principal standpoint. Contacting families and parents. Things happen, when you put 425-260 people in a building there’s going to be some sort of conflict and some sort of behavior issues. The goal to put a Dean of Students in there was to release some of the time that they are spending working with behaviors and spending it working with students, working with teachers, and running the building.”
The board opted to table the issue to look into their options both financially or going in a different direction. For more information, tune in to today’s Let’s Talk Indianola.
