The Indianola softball team used a late game offensive surge to earn a 16-6 win over Pella Christian Friday night that was heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

The Eagles got the scoring started in the top of the first with Brynn Roozeboom’s solo homer to left field giving them the early 1-0 lead. The Indians evened the score an inning later, as Ava Tichy singled in Tessa Gripp, then took a 3-1 advantage in the bottom of the third with Alexa Guyer and Dana Blake scoring on a ground out and sacrifice fly, respectively. After four and a half relatively quiet innings of softball, the offenses came to life in the bottom of the fifth. Indianola used seven hits, three walks and an error to score seven runs and take a 10-1 lead. The Eagles answered the Indians big inning with seven hits and a walk of their own to plate five runs and cut the deficit to 10-6. Not to be outdone, Indianola added another six hits and six runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn the run-rule win. 

The Indians finished the game with 16 runs on 17 hits, led by Tessa Gripp’s and Ava Tichy’s 3-for-4 performances at the plate with a combined four RBIs. Tichy also earned the victory in the circle, pitching five innings and allowing one run to push Indianola’s record to 10-12 overall and 5-5 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. Pella Christian was led offensively by Brynn Roozeboom’s 2-for-3 night at dish, which included a solo home run and two RBIs. Maddy Van Zee suffered the complete game loss in the circle for the Eagles, as their record dropped to 1-14 overall and 0-9 in the conference.

The Indianola softball team is back in action with a doubleheader at Pella Monday night that begins at 5:30 pm, and game two can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA. The Pella Christian softball team also returns to the diamond on Monday to host Dallas Center-Grimes.
