Both Twin Cedars Summer Squads suffered losses to non-conference competition on Wednesday as the Softball Squad lost to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 7-1 and the baseball Sabers fell to Ogden 15-4. In the softball game, two big innings by the Rockets were the Sabers’ undoing. Jillian French was tagged for seven runs on eight hits and struck out six. French told KNIA/KRLS Sports she was not satisfied with her outing on Wednesday but knows there will be opportunities later on.
French: “It’s definitely a lot of pressure but it’s something I do enjoy, and I realize if I don’t step on the mound and pitch my best, we’re not going to win. Yes it’s a team effort, but I have to do my part.”
The Sabers managed just four hits on the night, two in the 7th when they finally got on the scoreboard. Meanwhile on the baseball diamond, a seven run 7th inning propelled Ogden to a decisive win over Twin Cedars. The Sabers trailed 6-0 in the 4th, but put up a rally of four runs in the 5th to cut the lead to 8-4, but the Bulldogs put the seven spot up in the 7th to put the game out of reach. Dallas Smith went 2/3 with two RBI to lead the Sabers offensive effort. Brandon Puyear took the loss going four innings, walking four and striking out two. Both Twin Cedars Squads travel to Ankeny Christian tonight and both have a chance to put themselves in position to clinch a Bluegrass Conference title.
