indianola-3

The Indianola baseball team knocked off #2 ranked Dallas Center-Grimes Monday night in a game heard live on 94.3 KNIA as the softball team fell to the Mustangs in Little Hawkeye Conference matchups.

The Indian baseball team saw an impressive shutout pitching performance from starter Bryant Ritchie who threw 5 ⅔ innings to get the win, and Kaden Ritchie who threw 1 ⅓ innings to pick up the save. Indianola jumped out to a three run lead in the first inning after a three run homer from Jack Strong, and the Indians tacked on two more runs in the fourth. Indianola’s defense was relentless, especially in situations with multiple runners on base to help secure the shutout. Freshman George Blake went 3-3 on the night for Indianola with three singles. Indianola Head Coach Nathan Carlin says his team is playing really good baseball right now.

“The guys are kind of clicking right now. They’re playing really good in all phases of the game. We got some areas of improvement still, but the guys know where we need to improve and they’re putting in some extra time. Last weekend was good to us. We played really good baseball in five different games against some really good competition and it was good to see that carry over.”

After the win, the Indians improve to 20-9 overall and 10-5 in conference.

The Indianola softball team fell to the #6 ranked Mustangs 12-2. The Mustangs were able to push runs across in all seven innings including four in the sixth to help put the game out of reach. After the loss the Indian softball team falls to 12-16 overall and 6-8 in the conference. The Indianola baseball and softball teams will next compete on Wednesday in varsity doubleheaders at Oskaloosa.
