After seeing three consecutive months of decline, local unemployment rates saw no change in May, according to the latest data from Iowa Workforce Development.
The unemployment rate in Marion County remained at 1.7% last month, which is down from 2.7% in January. There are 18,750 residents employed in Marion County and 320 seeking work and receiving benefits. The rate also stayed the same in Warren County, holding steady at 1.9% in May, but that number is down from the 3% seen to begin 2024. In Warren County, there are 28,700 employed residents and 600 individuals seeking work and receiving benefits.
Statewide, Iowa’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 2.8% last month, which matches the rate set in April and in May 2023.
