After Friday night’s games were canceled due to weather, the Pella Christian summer sports teams now turn their attention to the final week of the regular season.

The Eagles softball team will get one final tuneup this week ahead of the regional playoffs, hosting Class 1A #6 Sigourney on Tuesday. Pella Christian head coach Mindi Kacmarynski says that while the postseason is looming, they are keeping their focus on improving each night they get to compete.

“We’re not looking at the scoreboard. We’re gonna play Eagle softball and we’re just gonna keep getting better. So, that’s how we’re looking at this next game.”

The Pella Christian baseball team has two more opportunities to gain momentum heading into the postseason, traveling to Class 2A #1 West Marshall on Monday and hosting Grand View Christian on Tuesday. With a full week off in between the final regular season game and the start of the postseason, Eagles head coach Chris Fynaardt says their goal is to use these two games to stay focused.

“We’re just going to try to get kids on the mound that are more than likely going to see mound time in the postseason, just keep getting kids at bats, and try not to get rusty over that time where there’s a gap. We’ll have the Fourth of July holiday in there and hopefully kids will use it to rest, but we’ve still got the Friday and the Monday to practice and just make sure we’re staying sharp.”

First pitch of the Pella Christian baseball game at West Marshall Monday is slated for 7:15 pm, and the Eagles home softball game against Sigourney on Tuesday is also scheduled to start at 7:15 pm.
