Both Pella summer teams started the final stretch of the regular season with lopsided victories Monday, as the baseball team won on the road at Washington 7-1 and the Dutch softball girls were 10-0 winners over Perry, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

At home, it was a team effort as the Dutch dominated all three aspects of the game, by scoring in four of the five innings and playing clean defense behind a three-hit allowed effort by pitcher Emma Eekhoff in her return to the circle. Ava Curry hit her 4th home run of the season in a 2-for-4 showing, Elah Heimstra was 3-for-4, Kiki Riggen went 2-for-2 with a double, and both Eekhoff and Katie Scheckel went 2-for-4 with a double and multiple runs batted in. The Dutch improve their record to 18-11 overall. Catcher Lucy Carlson is featured on Today’s Lely Radio Sports Page, as are broadcast highlights from the Dutch taking on the Jayettes.

Pella’s No. 10 in 3A baseball team pulled ahead with a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning and tacked on a few more over the course of the contest with the Demons. Eight of the nine Dutch starters had a hit in the game, led by Teagan Hoekstra and Nathan VandeLune and their 3-for-4 performances. Hoekstra matched that success on the mound, giving up just four baserunners in five innings, striking out six in the win. Pella moves to 21-7 overall on the season.

Both Dutch teams are scheduled to continue non-conference play tonight, weather permitting, as the Dutch welcome a potential substate preview with #7 Grinnell on the baseball diamond, while the girls are set for travel west to Boone.
