The Indianola softball team defeated Ames 6-4, while the baseball team fell to the Scarlets of Des Moines East 6-4.
The Indianola softball team scored the games first four runs to lead 4-0 after the first three innings but then gave up four unanswered to the Cyclones to have the score tied heading into the fifth. Indianola pushed a run across in the sixth to gain a one-run lead, then added insurance in the seventh to secure the win. The Indians improve to 18-17 on the season, and will next play at Ankeny on Monday.
The Indians baseball team trailed early 1-0, but got two runs back in the second to take a brief 2-1 lead only to see the Scarlets tie the score in the bottom of the third. The score would remain 2-2 until Indianola added a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings to seemingly take control, but the Scarlets scored four in the bottom of the sixth to take a commanding lead. Luke Byers gave up two runs in 5.2 innings pitched, while Asher Brueck went 1-2 at the plate with a home run. The Indians travel to Ballard on Monday.
